West End: Viewing window, Poop Deck below, Nursery at bottom
Some random tools are hanging around as needed
barrel locks open "Poop Deck" door
Door hooks in open position here
Wire grate is to keep birds from scratching in straw
Looks like this when coop needs cleaned
Poops can get stuck on the wire rack and need to be picked off
Tray slides out for easier access
hand picking the poops out really doesn't take that long
Saves straw
Poops go in a bucket we keep nearby for that purpose
They might come and "help" you
What they really want are the occasional seed heads in the straw
Troublemakers!
After all the poops are cleaned out, it may like its straw refreshed
Lift the bar to access the supply closet on the east end
Tip it up and out of the way
So you can open the door
and hook it here
Everyone will help you get straw :-D
Fill the yellow bucket
Store leftovers for the next time
Slide the tray back in
Take the bucket of poops in the used straw
Place it in the compost
Leave the bucket nearby for the next use
...and you're done! This process took 30 minutes. It should be done as needed, anywhere between once and twice per week.
