West End: Viewing window, Poop Deck below, Nursery at bottom |
Some random tools are hanging around as needed |
barrel locks open "Poop Deck" door |
Door hooks in open position here |
Wire grate is to keep birds from scratching in straw |
Looks like this when coop needs cleaned |
Poops can get stuck on the wire rack and need to be picked off |
Tray slides out for easier access |
hand picking the poops out really doesn't take that long |
Saves straw |
Poops go in a bucket we keep nearby for that purpose |
They might come and "help" you |
What they really want are the occasional seed heads in the straw |
Troublemakers! |
After all the poops are cleaned out, it may like its straw refreshed |
Lift the bar to access the supply closet on the east end |
Tip it up and out of the way |
So you can open the door |
and hook it here |
Everyone will help you get straw :-D |
Fill the yellow bucket |
Store leftovers for the next time |
Slide the tray back in |
Take the bucket of poops in the used straw |
Place it in the compost |
Leave the bucket nearby for the next use |
...and you're done! This process took 30 minutes. It should be done as needed, anywhere between once and twice per week.
